The funeral service of William R. "Bill" Davis. Jr., 78, of Albany who died Saturday, August 30, 2008 at his residence while surrounded by family and friends, will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at Mathews Funeral Home with Masonic Rites. Rev. Bobby Moye and Rev. Pete Daughtry will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery with full Military Honors. A native of Wilder, TN, Mr. Davis had resided in the Albany area since 1968 moving from Parris Island, SC. He was a retired Master Sergeant in U.S. Marine Corps, a warehouseman at The Marine Corps Supply Center, Albany, GA and was employed as a shipping and receiving clerk at Sears and Roebuck Company. Mr. Davis was a member of Westview Baptist Church, the VFW Post #2785 and the American Legion Post #30. He was a 32ndl degree Scottish Rite Mason, a member of Dougherty Lodge #591 FandAM, The Order of The Eastern Star. Crepe Mrytle Chapter #163 and Hasan Shrine Center. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sybil Davis, a brother, David Davis and a sister, Lois Coffey, He is survived by his wife, Eloise H. Davis of Albany, three sons and their wives: Arthur Earl Davis and Barbara of Lee County, William "Bill" Davis III and Leigh of Canton, GA and Robert M. “Bobby” Davis and Lisa of Albany; two daughters, Patricia "Patty” Davis of Lee County and Sharon Davis of Albany; two step-sons and their wives, Randy and Sherri Wells of Alapaha and Wesley and Heather Wells of Lee County; a step-daughter and her husband, Sabrina and Chris Layfield of Lee County; seven brothers: Kenneth Roth and Jerry Roth, both of Mooresville, IN, Marvin Roth of Seattle, WA, Roger Roth of Indianapolis, IN, Donald Roth of Wickenburg, AZ, Theodore Davis of Huntsville, TN and Merrol Davis of Winfield, TN; three sisters: Helen Gibson, Marilyn Sue Harness and Reeda Chambers, all of Huntsville, TN; an aunt, Virginia Burton of Columbia, KY; seventeen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
