The ACHS Indians, currently riding a three game winning streak after Monday’s win over Clinton Co., seem to have finally found the key to winning baseball, pitching and defense. Over the three game span, the Tribe pitching staff has surrendered only two runs in the previous 18 innings of work. The Tribe will be finishing up regular season this week, with an aim at Marion Co. on Monday in the 20th District Tournament. ACHS 7 Monroe Co. 5 After digging a 5-0 deficit through three innings, the Indian bats came alive with a six run outburst to take a 6-5 lead in the fifth inning. The rally began with designated hitter Tyler Absher singling to start the inning, Absher would later score. Christian Talley continued to rally reaching base on a fielder’s choice and was moved around the pads after Derek Cape walked and Jordan Knifley reached base on an error following a nine pitch battle at the plate. Tyler Knight and Evan Curry continued the big inning with back to back walks before Seth Dunbar plated both runners with a 2-RBI double. The Indians lead would be enough, but Dunbar would add an insurance run in the top of the 7th, when he blasted a homerun to set the final score. Jaylyn Bailey took the win on the mound with a complete game effort. He scattered nine hits. Joining Seth Dunbar with two hits was Derek Cape. ACHS 7 Casey Co. 0 The Tribe took a weekend game at Liberty on Saturday behind ace Derek Cape’s one hit performance on the mound and a combined eight hits from the first three batters in the lineup. The Indians got to work early as Christian Talley reached base on an error and after stealing second, scored as Cape reached first base safely on an error. Jordan Knifley would account for the Tribe’s second run of the inning as he was hit by a pitch and was sent home on an Evan Curry single. Talley would once again get a rally started in the top of the 3rd as he led off the inning with a double and was plated by Cape’s RBI single to put the Tribe ahead 3-0. The Indians would add a pair of runs in each of the fourth and sixth innings. In the 4th, Jared Denton singled with two outs and after stealing second base, was able to cross the plate on Talley’s RBI double. Talley would then score on Knifley’s RBI single. The sixth inning saw Joseph Grider score on Talley’s third hit of the game. Talley would in turn score on Cape RBI single. Cape and Talley each had three hits and two RBI’s in the win, with Knifley adding a pair of singles and an RBI. ACHS 6 Clinton Co. 2 Jordan Knifley picked up a key win in pitching a complete game four-hitter at ACHS field on Monday, as the Tribe broke open a tied game in the third inning with four unanswered runs. With the game knotted at 2-2, the Indians offense came through with two outs in the fourth inning. Clay Turner began the rally as he reached on a Bulldog error and was sent on to third base on a Jared Denton single. After Christian Talley walked to load the bases, Derek Cape stepped to the plate and needled in a double between fielders to pick up the three RBIs. The Indians would add an insurance run in the fifth when Tyler Knight reached on an error and was sent home on a Seth Dunbar RBI double. Talley and Denton were each 2-3 from the plate in the win, with Talley scoring two of the Indian runs. |
