The ACHS baseball squad has not been able to put together a ton of success this season mainly due to replacing seven seniors from 2007. But the Tribe’s Derek Cape, who has signed to continue his baseball play at Lindsey Wilson next season, has been a steadying figure when he has seen the mound this season. Cape continued his senior season with a strong outing on Monday’s 11-1 win over Monroe Co. in which he allowed only two Falcon hits and an unearned run. Monroe Co. scored their only run of the contest in the top of the first inning as a runner reached base on an error and scored on a passed ball, however, the Tribe was quick to knot the score in the bottom half. Christian Talley led off the contest with a base on balls and after stealing second base he was sent home as Jordan Knifley reached on an error. Both teams would remain scoreless until the fifth inning when the Tribe would add two runs for a 3-1 advantage. The rally was started by Talley once again drawing a lead off walk. After Cape moved Talley to 3rd base with a single, Tyler Knight picked up an RBI sacrifice plating the run. Cape would go on to score on a wild pitch later in the inning. The Indians would break open the flood walls in the sixth as they sent 12 batters to the plate, scoring eight runs, all with two outs to invoke the mercy rule. G Young led off the inning with a single. Following the two outs, Talley would move the runner with a single and Cape delivered an RBI single to plate Young. Talley and Cape would go on to score on Falcon wild pitches to push the score to 6-1. Knifley would continue the rally drawing a walk and Tyler Knight singled to move Knifley to third base, where he would once again take advantage of a wild pitch to score. Evan Curry, retuning to the line-up following an injury, delivered Knight to the plate with a single and was moved to second base on Seth Dunbar’s base on balls. In their second at bats of the inning, Young and Michael Johnson delivered RBI singles to move the score to 10-1, with Jordan Blair delivering the clinching run reaching on an error. Evan Curry carried the big stick for the Tribe going 4-4 at the plate, with G Young, Michael Johnson, and Cape adding two hits each. In Earlier action… ACHS 2 Campbellsville 12 The Indians could only manage two hits after the first inning in falling to the Eagles in 20th district play. The Tribe broke ahead 1-0 in the top of the first inning as Tyler Knight singled and was driven in by a Jordan Knifley double. However, errors would haunt the Indians as the host Eagles sent 11 batters to the plate in the first inning, taking the lead for good at 5-1, and cruised to the five inning win. ACHS 2 Marion Co. 15 The Tribe fell to 0-5 in district play as the host Knights nine runs in the 4th inning in a mercy rule game. The Indians would score both of their runs in their fourth at bat as Michael Johnson led off the inning with a double and Jordan Blair reached base on an error scoring Johnson. Blair went on to score the Indians 2nd run on another Knight error. ACHS 1 Muhlenberg North 7 The Tribe dropped the opener of a doubleheader at Green Co. on Saturday to the Stars from Central City. The Stars would score six of their runs in their first two at bats, but pitcher Jaylyn Bailey settled down to hold the opponent scoreless over the last three at bats. The Indians only run came from Jordan Knifley who walked and later scored on a passed ball in the sixth inning. G Young had two hits in the contest to lead the Indian offense. ACHS 9 Green Co. 19 Despite holding a 7-2 lead after three innings, the Tribe was unable to close the deal against the home standing Dragons on Saturday. In the nightcap of the doubleheader, the Dragons plated seven runs in the fourth inning and six more in the fifth to take the mercy rule win. Seth Dunbar led the hitting attack with two hits. Michael Johnson, Jordan Blair, and Dunbar each had RBIs in the loss. |
