Apr 10,2008 00:00
Area residents will have a chance on Monday night to meet the four candidates who want to represent Kentucky’s 51st District in the House of Representatives. A forum for the four candidates will be held at 6 p.m. CT at Lindsey Wilson College’s Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center. The forum is free and open to the public. The forum is sponsored by the Lindsey Wilson student group Achieving Collegiate Excellence and Success. Four Campbellsville residents are competing to fill the seat being vacated by State Rep. Russ Mobley of Campbellsville, who has held the seat since 2001. The four candidates are Democrat Doug Mullins and Republicans John “Bam” Carney, Russell Montgomery and Asa James Swan. The House candidates will be asked a series of questions from a moderator. The moderator will select the questions submitted by Lindsey Wilson students and voters. “We wanted to hold this forum because we teach our students that it’s important to be engaged in civic life,” said LWC Freshman Advisor Randy Burns, who is an adviser to ACES. “We encourage our students vote, but we want them to be informed voters. This forum is a perfect way to learn more about the candidates and where they stand on key issues.” Kentucky will hold its May primary – which will include a presidential primary – will be on May 20.
