Despite a field full of mud, the Adair County Band left Saturday’s West Regional competition with the highest score of all 14 bands competing in Class AAA, catapulting them into this Saturday’s State Semi-Finals.
“The field was a quagmire from all the rain we had earlier this week,” said Tim Allen, Adair County Band Director, describing the grounds at Caldwell County High School. “It was a very sloppy surface on which to perform. But even with the poor conditions, our students did a pretty nice job.” “I also want to send a special thanks to all the parents that made the long trip to help out both on the field and in the stands,” added Allen. The KMEA State semi-finals are scheduled for this Saturday at different sites scattered around the Bowling Green area, beginning at 10 a.m. Adair County will perform in Class AAA Semi-Finals at 12:45 p.m. at Franklin Simpson High School. The top four scoring bands from each class will then advance to the finals Saturday evening at L.T. Smith Stadium on the campus of Western Kentucky University, beginning at 5 p.m. with Class A. Tickets for Finals are $10 and can be purchased at the stadium, by contacting KMEA at (859) 626-5635, or by visiting www.kmea.org. All tickets are general admission. Also competing over the weekend was Adair County Band alumni Jaime Smith, Band Director of Campbellsville High School. His band of 19 students took third place in Class A West Regionals, earning them a spot in State Semi-Finals Saturday.
