Lady Indians Sixth in Region Golf, Goodin Named All-Region
The ACHS Lady Indians golf season came to an end on Monday as they participated in the 13 team Region 4 Golf Tournament at Rolling Hills Golf Club in Russellville. The fourth region, which according to Coach Kim Goodin has produced six individual and four team state champions in the past ten years, proved to be tough row to hoe for the Ladies. The Lady Indians finished with a score of 373 as a team based on their top four scores which were good enough for sixth place among the 13 schools participating. "The course was extremely tough playing 5700 + yards", commented Coach Goodin, "The greens were the fastest we had played on all year plus add in difficult pin placements and all those high scores were the result". Glasgow (339) and Green Co. (352) played well enough to earn the team trips to next week's state tournament at Bowling Green Country Club. Individually, Lauren Goodin led the ACHS charge shooting a round of 87, followed closely behind by sister Ashley (88) and Natalie Sneed (89). Rounding out the rounds for the Lady Indians were Dea Brandon (109) and Emilee Royse (118). Despite the disappointing finish to her last high school tournament, Lauren Goodin was honored by the region coaches, being chosen to the five-member All Region Team for her stellar play during the season. "I felt for Lauren, especially with her being a senior and not qualifying for the State Tournament", remarked Goodin, "However, she was voted to the All Region team by the 4th Region coaches which I think is a compliment considering it was our first year in this region". Other members of the All Region team were Kelsey Burrell (Franklin Simpson), Laura Beth Harris (Glasgow), Kate Larimore (Green Co.), Kristen Wilkinson (Glasgow). ACHS Girls Golf had a remarkable season considering the state of the program a few short years ago; when participation dipped so low there was no team, only individual players. Coach Goodin summed her thoughts up quite nicely on this season in closing, "I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to coach Lauren. She had a terrific senior season and we will miss her leadership and playing ability. We have much to look forward to in the future. Several of our team members have improved tremendously and hopefully they will continue to get better and better. Girls' golf is back in Adair County and going strong."
