Local WOMAN CHARGED WITH ASSAULT AFTER STABBING MAN
An Adair County woman was arrested Sunday night and charged with assault first degree after stabbing a man in an altercation. Samantha J. Hatfield, 23, of James Karnes Road, Columbia, was arrested at 8:58 p.m. off KY 55 North and charged with assault first degree, criminal mischief second degree and wanton endangerment first degree. Hatfield was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail. According to Deputy Sheriff Mike Burton, who is investigating the incident, Hatfield allegedly called the father of her baby, Oscar Cortez, and asked him to meet her at the New Life of the Nations Church just a short distance from Hatfield’s residence to bring her child support money. According to the incident report, another female was with Hatfield, and the female stated that Hatfield told her if Cortez didn’t give her the money, she was going to stab him. When Cortez arrived at the parking lot of the church, Hatfield allegedly cut the tires on his truck to prevent him from leaving. She then held the knife to the throat of the other woman and threatened to kill her. She then stabbed Cortez, who was able to get the knife away from her. Cortez, who was stabbed in the upper left chest area, was transported to Westlake Regional Hospital by the Adair County EMS. Officers from the Kentucky State Police also responded to and assisted Deputy Burton with the incident.
