An Adair County man was flown to a Louisville hospital Friday afternoon after the vehicle he was operating struck a bridge on KY 900 near Glensfork.
Thirty-three-year-old Clinton Bunch of Columbia was transported to Westlake Regional Hospital by the Adair County EMS and later flown by air ambulance to the University of Louisville Hospital following the accident, which occurred at 4:16 p.m. Friday about one mile west of Glensfork on KY 900.
According to the police  report, Bunch, operating a 1999 Chevy S-10 pickup, was traveling east on KY 900 when his vehicle ran off the shoulder of the road and struck a bridge.
The impact trapped Bunch inside his vehicle, and the Adair County Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene and used extrication tools to cut Bunch from the pickup.
Bunch reportedly suffered a broken arm and a broken leg among other injuries in the crash.
According to Deputy Sheriff Mike Burton, who investigated the accident, some nearby residents reportedly heard a noise which sounded like a tire blowing out on the Bunch vehicle before it crashed.
Two injured in
parkway crash
Two people were injured in a single-vehicle accident on the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Parkway shortly before noon yesterday.
According to the police report, the accident occurred one mile west of Columbia on the parkway when 18-year-old Steve Lawson, of Corbin, was traveling eastbound on the parkway in a 1997 Toyota. Lawson fell asleep, dropped off the shoulder of the roadway, overcorrected and struck a rock wall.
Both Lawson and a passenger, Michael Lawson, were trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by personnel from the Adair County EMS and Columbia-Adair County Fire Department.
Both Steve Lawson and Michael Lawson were transported to Westlake Regional Hospital by the EMS and then transferred to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
The accident was investigated by Deputy Sheriff Tracy McCarol with assistance from Columbia Police Chief Mark Harris and Officer Jamie Cole.
