ACHS Lady Indians Softball Splits on Road
The ACHS Lady Indians moved to 2-1 on the season with a split of road games this week at Hart Co. and Taylor Co. The Ladies continued to hit the ball well in their win at Hart Co., while a valiant effort at 20th district power Taylor Co. came up just short in extra innings. ACHS 11 Hart Co. 6 The Lady Indians posted ten runs in their final four at bats in moving to 2-0 on the season with an 11-6 win at Munfordville last Tuesday. Adair struck first in the contest as they went on top in the first frame by plating one run. Chelsea Coomer reached base on a walk to lead off the game and was moved to third base on a single by Jessica Harmon. Kaylin Hughes then drove Coomer home with her first hit and RBI to give the Lady Tribe the early lead. Neither team was able to find the plate until the fourth inning when the Lady Indians exploded for four runs with two outs to take a 5-0 lead. Jamie Bailey ignited the rally drawing a base on balls and was promptly plated by a Shauna Davis RBI double. Jessica Young then stepped to the plate and scored Davis with a single. After Jessica Wethington’s single that followed Young, Chelsea Coomer plated both Jessica’s with a double. Hart Co. responded in the bottom of the fourth as they trimmed the lead to 5-1, and after holding the Lady Indians scoreless in the fifth inning, had a rally of their own scoring 4 runs to knot the game at 5-5 with two innings remaining. However, the Lady Indians were not to be denied as they got several key hits down the stretch and scored three runs in both the six and seventh frame to take control and the win. In the sixth Hits by Davis and Young set up RBI safeties for Harmon and Hannah Peck. And in their final at bat, Hughes and Bailey singled and were sent home by back to back RBI doubles by Davis and Young. Meridith Corbin picked up her second win in as many games pitching a complete game and striking out four Lady Raiders. Shauna Davis led the offensive parade for the Lady Indians with three hits and two RBI’s, with Jessica Young, Jessica Harmon, Jamie Bailey, and Kaylin Hughes each had two hits. ACHS 3 Taylor Co. 4 (8 innings) The Lady dropped their first game of the season in heartbreaking fashion as they fell to the defending 20th district champion Lady Cardinals at Taylor Co. on Monday. The game was dominated by both teams’ pitchers for the first four frames as neither team was able to plate runs. In the fifth, the Lady Cardinals were finally able to break up Meridith Corbin’s shutout as they scored the games first run as their first two batters singled. Following a fielder’s choice that moved the leadoff runner to third, the Taylor Co. runner scored on a passed ball. However the Lady Indians stifled the impending rally as 3rd baseman McKenzie Martin snagged a fly ball in foul territory and doubled off the Lady Cardinal runner on base to end the inning. After going scoreless in their half of the sixth, the Lady Indians once again stopped a would be Taylor Co. rally in the bottom of the inning after back to back singles went unrewarded as Corbin enticed an infield fly and a grounder for the last two outs of the frame. The Lady Indians were finally able to put a notch on the scoreboard in the final inning of regulation as Jessica Young ripped a leadoff double to right center field. After Jessica Wethington sacrificed Young to third base, Carli Burton lifted a fly ball to right field that was mishandled to score the Lady Indian run and send the game to an extra frame after Taylor was unable to score in their half of the seventh. The Lady Indians looked to have taken control of the contest in the top of the eighth inning as they plated two runs to take a 3-1 advantage. Martin led off the frame with a two strike single up the middle and was moved to third base after Kaitie Luckey reached base on an error and moved to second base on the play. Jamie Bailey then picked up an RBI plating Martin with a sacrifice grounder to the second baseman and was followed by a Shauna Davis RBI sacrifice. However, the Lady Cardinals roared back in their half of the extra inning to take the win plating three runs on two hits and two Lady Indian miscues. Jessica Young had two hits to pace the Lady Indians at the plate, while Meridith Corbin continued her fine work on the mound fanning seven batters in the complete game loss.
