James W. Burris

James W. Burris, age 83 years, of Bluegrass Drive, Columbia, KY passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at VA Hospice Care Center in Lexington.
He was born in Adair County, Kentucky on August 16, 1925 to the late Charles W. Burris and Dora Barnes Burris. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Norma Bernard Burris.
Mr. Burris is survived by his wife, Sara Jean Marshall Burris of Columbia; one son, Dane (Sandy) Burris of Danville; one daughter, Cindy (Steve) Matherly of Nicholsville; two step sons: Larry (Rachel) Marshall of Elizabethtown and Jim (Mary Lee) Marshall of Russell Springs; one brother, Bolin Burris of Michigan, and one sister, Dorothy Polston of Campbellsville. Four grandchildren; three step grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and seven step great-grandchildren also survive.
Mr. Burris was a sign painter, former Russell Springs Mayor and City Councilman, a veteran of U.S. Army serving in WWII and was a member of the Russell Springs First Baptist Church and Russell Springs Masonic Lodge #941.
Funeral service was held on Friday, June 26, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Bernard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rachel Marshall and Bro. Dennis Price officiating.
Burial was in the Lucenda Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Dane Burris, Steve Matherly, Jesse Matherly, Shane Burris, Mark Burris, Jim Marshall, and Larry Marshall.
The family requests memorials to the VA Hospice Care Center, 1101 Veterans Drive, Unit 27-2, Lexington, KY 40502 or can be made at the funeral home.
Bernard Funeral Home in Russell Springs was in charge of arrangements.
