Adair's Rainfall For April-June Is Significantly Above Normal
Talk to about anyone and about everyone will tell you that they can't remember when its rained so much - and so often - during the spring as it has this year. And while the county may have had more rainfall during the April through June period than we've had in 2009, it hasn't happened in the past five years. In fact, the rainfall we've received from Apr. l through June 24 this year is several inches more than what fell in the same April-June period since 2004. According to the rainfall records at Kentucky State Police Post #15 in Columbia, a total of 20.68 inches of rain has fallen since Apr. 1. Totals recorded at the Kentucky Mesonet weather station in the new industrial park off KY 55 North show 18.72 inches of rainfall (with the biggest discrepancy being in April, when the KSP recorded 1.5 inches more). Using rainfall records compiled by the Kentucky State Police (the Mesonet station did not begin operating until mid-May of last year), the 20.68 inches of rain in April through June 2009 is over eight inches more than what fell during the same period last year (12.02 inches) and almost 14 inches more than what fell in April-June 2007 (6.89 inches). The following chart shows the amount of rainfall recorded in Adair County for the months of April-June from 2004 to present. (State Police records provided by the Adair County FSA Office.)
