Thursday Is Senior Citizens Day At The C of C Roadside Park
Adair County Senior Citizens will be honored with a day of fun, food and games during at the Roadside Park on KY 55 South this Thursday, June 25th. Adair County Judge Ann Melton and Columbia Mayor Pat Bell are encouraging all senior citizens to attend the event and are asking all citizens to remember to provide transportation for parents, grandparents, and neighbors to make it a wonderful day. The day of fun, games, and food will get underway at 8:30 a.m. and continue until 12:00 p. m. CT. The event will begin with games, followed by a cookout, and finish with drawings for door prizes. The Adair County Senior Citizens Program was run by Lake Cumberland Community Services Organization and is now under the control of the Lake Cumberland Area Development District after the LCADD chose not to renew the contract with LCCSO. As a result 10 county Senior Citizens programs inside the Lake Cumberland District were left without administrators. As a result the senior citizens programs are facing numerous problems including not having a permanent building, money, and participation to name a few. According to Lisa Lee, "The participation of the Adair County Senior Citizens is very low and we feel that it because the residents do not realize that the program exists, so we are holding the event to promote our Senior Citizens program." All seniors can attend the Senior Citizens Program located on Carrie Bolin Drive in the Administrative Office of the Housing Authority. The program activities include playing games, visiting with friends, and enjoying a hot meal. The center also delivers lunch to residents who live in the city limits but can't get to the center. For additional information, please contact Judge/Executive Ann Melton at (270) 384-4703 or email acjudge1@duo-county.com.
