Suspect In Russell Murder Turns Self In
A Hispanic male who was being sought in connection with a murder that occurred on Saturday, Apr. 26 in Russell County has been captured in Tennessee. According to a news release from the Columbia State Police Post, Roberto De Jesus Gomez was involved in an altercation at the Cleveland Road Trailer Park in Russell Springs on Apr. 26 in which Jorge Gomez suffered multiple stab wounds and died at the scene. Roberto Gomez fled the scene and was taken to Wal-Mart in Somerset where he was dropped off. A bulletin was issued by the state police seeking any information as to his whereabouts. Then, at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 1, Post 15 in Columbia received a call from the Campbell County Sheriff's Department in Campbell County, Tennessee, stating that they had Robert De Jesus Gomez in custody. Campbell County Sheriff's Det. Jim Jeffries was walking into a local courthouse when a Hispanic male approached him and advised him that he had been involved in a stabbing in Russell Springs, KY. Gomez was taken into custody and his identity was verified through physical description and an interview. Gomez waived extradition, and Det. B.J. Burton, who is leading the investigation into the case, traveled to Tennessee and picked up Gomez. He was lodged in the Russell County Jail upon his return to Kentucky.
