Lindsey To Hold Largest Winter Commencement At Saturday's Ceremony

Lindsey Wilson College will hold the largest winter commencement ceremony in the college's 105-year history on Saturday morning. The college will award a total of 325 degrees at its 88th commencement ceremony.
The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. CT in Biggers Sports Center. Following the ceremony, the Lindsey Wilson National Alumni Association will hold a reception for graduates and their guests in Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center.
Lindsey Wilson Vice President for Enrollment & Student Services Dean Adams, a 1978 Lindsey Wilson alumnus, will deliver the commencement address.
Saturday's ceremony will be Lindsey Wilson's fifth winter commencement, and it will also be the second largest commencement ceremony held at the college. To put this weekend's winter commencement in perspective, Lindsey Wilson awarded 335 degrees during the 2003-04 school year, the last school year it held just one commencement ceremony. Last school year, the college awarded a total of 412 degrees at two commencement ceremonies.
"In a very short time, this has become such a wonderful December tradition at our college," said Lindsey Wilson President William T. Luckey Jr., who is in his 11th year as the college's eighth president. "The winter commencement ceremony is a marvelous way to conclude the calendar year because it celebrates the accomplishments of our students and their families."
At Saturday morning's ceremony, Lindsey Wilson will award a total of 213 undergraduate degrees and 112 graduate degrees. Especially noteworthy is that 175 of the Lindsey Wilson students who will receive a bachelor of arts degree are Kentucky residents.
"This is such an important number because it's an example of Lindsey Wilson's commitment to helping the commonwealth of Kentucky double the number of residents with a bachelor's degree," Luckey said. "Although we are in an economic downturn, it's important that we don't lose sight of our future. And one sure way to build a solid future for our commonwealth is to have a college-educated workforce that can thrive in a knowledge-based economy."
Adams, the commencement speaker, holds a bachelor's degree in physical education, a master's degree in secondary education and a doctorate in higher education administration. He is active in several community organizations, and he is a former chair of the Columbia-Adair County Industrial Board.
Following winter commencement, the Lindsey Wilson National Alumni Association will hold a reception for graduates and their guests. The reception will be held in the Roberta D.
