THREE KILLED IN AREA Auto ACCIDENTS
Area highways proved to be deadly this weekend as three people were killed in accidents that occurred in Russell and Taylor counties. An 18-year-old woman from Berea and a 57-year-old woman from Russellville were both killed in a single-vehicle accident on the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Parkway Saturday afternoon near Russell Springs. According to the police report, the accident occurred at approximately 2:10 p.m. Saturday two miles east of Russell Springs on the parkway. Kayleigh Horn, 18, of Berea was traveling west on the parkway in a 1989 Nissan when she dropped off the shoulder of the road, overcorrected and crossed both westbound lanes then overturned. Horn, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported to Russell County Hospital by the Russell County EMS, where she was pronounced dead by Russell County Coroner Larry Skaggs. A passenger in the Horn vehicle, Kathleen Devasher of Russellville, was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Skaggs. It is unkownn if Devasher was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. The accident is being investigated by Trooper Mike Woodrum. In the other fatal accident, a Campbellsville University student was killed in a two-vehicle collision on KY 210. Jonathan Bruckert, 23, of Campbellsville, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Taylor County Coroner Terry Dabney. According to the police report, the accident occurred at 4:09 p.m. EDT Friday on KY 210. Bruckert, operating a 1993 Chrysler New Yorker, was westbound on KY 210 and a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer being operated by 40-year-old Melissa Deacon, of Louisville, was traveling east when Deacon’s vehicle crossed into the westbound lane and struck the Bruckert vehicle. Bruckert’s vehicle came to rest on the outside of the westbound emergency late, while Deacon’s vehicle left the roadway on the eastbound side and came to a stop after going over an embankment. Deacon was transported by AirEvac to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of multiple injuries. Seat belts were in use by both drivers, and air bags deployed in both vehicles. The accident was investigated by Taylor County Deputy Sheriff William Rice.
