Former ACHS Teacher Named In Lawsuit For Alleged Sex With a Student
A former Adair County High School Math teacher and the Adair County School Board are being sued by the parents of a student who he allegedly had sexual relations. The lawsuit filed on March 24, 2008 by attorney Robert L. Bertram on behalf of Michael and Charlene Cowan, the parents of the16-year old female student, accuses Johnothon McMillin of Columbia of shocking abuse of his position of authority for the alleged sexual relations. The lawsuit also charges that the school board failed to properly employ, train discipline and supervise McMillin and had reasonable knowledge of the alleged abuse but failed to correct or prevent the wrongful conduct. However, McMillin resigned in March 2007. The lawsuit does not give a specific amount for damages but states that the student experienced great psychological and emotional stress, trauma, neurosis, nightmares, fears, physical injury, pain and suffering, medical expenses, litigation costs and attorney’s fees due to the incident and asks for compensation, punitive damages and legal costs.
