First National Bank Announces Merger
First National Bank of Columbia will soon serve a much larger number of customers after announcing a merger with First Farmers Bank of Somerset. Ann Martin, President of First National Bank of Columbia, announced the merger at last Friday’s tobacco seminar at the Adair County Extension Office. As part of the merger the two banks will also combine their names to form First and Farmers National Bank and will also keep the eagle part of the FNB logo. “We want everyone to know that we have not been bought or sold, we have been owned by Albany Bancorp since 1997 and decided to make the merger to maximize efficiencies and become one group under a national charter,” said Martin. As a result of the merger First and Farmers National Bank will have 12 locations and 16 ATM’s in Columbia, Burkesville, Albany, Burnside, Somerset and Nancy. According to Martin the bank assets have increased to $426 million with over 160 employees. “One thing you will not see changed is our people and will retain the same friendly employees to take care of the banking needs of Columbia and Adair County,” Martin said. The merger will officially take place on Saturday Feb. 16th and the bank signage changeover should be completed the day before. “We will continue to offer products and services that are on the cutting edge of the banking industry in order to grow and prosper with each of you in this wonderful community in which we live and work,” stated Martin. Martin went on to say, “We welcome everyone to stop by and share in this excitement with us as we take this important step in our growth and service to this community, and our goal is to put you first.” First National Bank will officially open its doors as First and Farmers National Bank on Tuesday, February 19th.
