The Adair County High School Cheerleaders competed in the Fifth Region KAPOS Cheerleading Competition this past Saturday at Central Hardin High School, with both squads capturing titles and advancing on to the state competition.
The ACHS Red Squad received first place in the 20th District and first place in the Fifth Region in the traditional cheer and pom division.
The ACHS Blue Squad received first place in the 20th District and first place in the Fifth Region in the two-and-one-half minute Super-Large varsity division.
Both squads will now advance on to the KAPOS state competition which will be held Feb. 16th Western Kentucky University’s Diddle Arena.
The ACHS cheerleaders also excelled in academics, 23 squad members being selected to the KAPOS All-Academic team. To be named to the All-Academic team, a student must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above.
Cheerleader Korianne Cox received the Libby Burr academic and leadership scholarship, one of only three cheerleaders from the Fifth Region to receive the award, which is awarded to outstanding senior cheerleaders.
Cox also received the Fifth Regional All-Academic Award for the fourth consecutive year, and was presented a plaque for the KAPOS Fifth Regional senior academic award for Adair County High School for 2008.
Cox, the daughter of Kathy and Jimmy Dale Cox, has been a member of the ACHS varsity cheerleaders for five years.
