Coming home was not kind to the Lady Indians following their first victory of the season on the road at Russellville. The Lady Indians dropped two contests to Green Co. and district rival Marion Co. to fall to 1-2 on the season. Adair Co. 46 Green Co. 58 The Lady Indians and Coach James Turner would just as soon forget everything that happened after the first quarter as they were outscored 50-35 in the final three quarters as they found defeat for the first time for the new season. The Lady Indians played well early as Freshman Carli Burton led the first quarter charge with 7 of the first 9 points of the contest for the Tribe. However, the Ladies were able to only tally four second quarter points, as the Lady Dragons were able to take control of the game with a 13-2 run into the half. The Dragons were able to extend their lead to 13 at the end of the third quarter, but the Lady Indians cut the advantage to two at the 1:42 mark on two Chelsea Luckey free throws at 48-46. However, the Lady Dragons scored the final 10 points of the contest to reach the final score. The Lady Indians were led by Luckey with 16 and Burton with 15. Rounding out the scoring was Sara Ezell 6, Laura Walker 4, Jaclyn Taylor 3 and Chene Smith 3. Adair Co. 60 Marion Co. 71 The Lady Indians were unable to stop one of Kentucky’s top scorers, as Tacarra Hayes led the Lady Knights with 32 points to open 20th district play with a win. The Lady Indians opened cold from the field and quickly found themselves down by double digits at the end of one quarter. The Lady Indians opened quickly scoring 8 of the quarter’s first 10 to cut the lead to four on a Chelsea Luckey 3 point play, however, the tide quickly turned back to Marion as they scored six of the final 8 of the half to open up a 11 point half time. The Lady Indians had opportunities to close the game in the second half, but Hayes athleticism caused the Tribe major problems as Marion cruised to a 71-60 win. Freshman Carli Burton continued her strong early season play with 17 points. Luckey added 15 to join Burton in double figures. Rounding out the line was Sara Ezell (9), Chene Smith (8), Laura Walker (5), Jaclyn Taylor (4), and Chelsea Beard (2). The Lady Indians continue district play tomorrow as they open a girl/boy doubleheader at Taylor Co. Tipoff is at 5:30 in Campbellsville.
