Human remains found near Campbellsville Rd. and Veterans Memorial Bypass

Multiple agencies responded to the intersection of Campbellsville Rd. and Veterans Memorial Bypass after human remains were found over an embankment.

Human remains found over an embankment near the intersection of Campbellsville Rd. and the Veterans Memorial Bypass are being sent to a Medical Examiner in Louisville and an autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow morning, according to Adair County Deputy Coroner Greg Mann.

A billfold was found among the remains that contained an identification. Mann said that they will begin work on contacting next of kin to the person in the ID, which was male, but Mann said he could only confirm that the remains belonged to an adult. Mann said that he planned to wait until the medical examiner released a report before determining a gender.

It is unknown how long the remains have been there, though the degree to which the remains were decayed indicates that it has likely been several weeks.

The remains reportedly belonged to a man who had been in the area for a while, but it is still unclear if the person was a resident of the local area or was passing through. Clothing at the site of the remains was a long-sleeve shirt and blue jeans.

The cause of death is still undetermined. A large amount of debris was found at the site of the remains, but Mann said that they did not believe it was related to the investigation.

A call came into dispatch around 10 a.m. after a local real estate agent had discovered the remains while attempting to locate signs. The Adair County Sheriff's Office, Columbia Police Dept., Adair County EMS, Kentucky State Police, and the Adair County Coroner's Office responded to the scene.

More information will be released as it is made available.
